Metal Blackening Services

Del's Plating Works offers metal blackening services nationwide for carbon or alloy steel. The black oxide process provides a conversion coating that changes the surface of the material to a naturally occurring black iron oxide. This coating offers a pleasing aesthetic finish and has minimal impact on surface dimensions. While black oxide does provide some corrosion protection, a protective oil must be applied to prevent rusting.

Del's Plating Works offers MIL-C-13924 black oxide coating and finishing to meet various military and industrial standards, plus MIL-DTL-13924 and AMS 2485. The MIL-C-13924 standard has two classes of black oxide coating for different types of materials. Class 1 is for wrought iron, cast and malleable irons, common carbon, and low alloy steels, while Class 4 is for stainless steel. Black oxide can also be applied to carbon steels and stainless steel.
