Anodizing Services
| |
Aluminum Anodization Provides:
- Superior Paint Base
- Electric Insulation
- Insures adhesion of organic coatings (i.e. zinc chromate, primer, paints & lubes)
- Minimizes Galvanic Corrosion
|
Types of Anodizing Processes (MIL-A-8625)
| |
Type I - Chromic
Acid Anodize
- Film produced is solid, thinner (0.02-0.05
MIL), darker in color, and is harder than sulfuric acid
films of the same thickness.
- 50% penetration in the substrate /
50% growth over original dimension of part
- Favored if there is a possibility
of solution entrapment in joints, recesses, and/or weldments.
- Chronic Acid leaves no corrosive
residue
- EXCELLENT FOR COATING ALUMINUM CASTINGS
Type II - Sulfuric Acid Anodize
- Favored for applications where hardness
& resistance to erosion is required
- Film produced are of greater thickness
(0.1-1.0 MIL)
- 67% penetration in substrate / 33% growth over original dimension of parts
- Its permeable nature prior to sealing
is used in the production of color surface finishes on
aluminum & it's alloys.
- Porous aluminum oxide absorbs dyes
well & sealing helps prevent color loss in service,
although color-fast, they tend to bleach under continued
direct sunlight.

Colors offered are:
- Black
- Red
- Blue
- Green
- Yellow (Gold)
- Bronze
- Custom Colors available upon request
|
| |
Type III - Hard Anodizing
Hard Anodizing also uses a sulfuric acid electrolyte, except that the baths have higher sulfuric acid concentration, lower temperatures, & higher current density which increases film transparency.
- Film Produced is 1-2 MILS for most
applications & have a hardness of 65 Rockwell "C"
- 50% penetration in the substrate /
50% growth over the original dimensions of the parts.
- Coatings have heightened surface roughness
and are softer on the top surface than down in the core
of the coating.
- Sealing of the coating reduces wear resistance &
fatigue strength. Sealing is only recommended when corrosion
resistance is a factor
|
| |
2-Step Coloring -
- Enhances the characteristic properties of aluminum
- Strengthens the aluminum to a hardness of steel
- Provides higher wear & electrical resistance
- Excellent candidates for exterior
applications such as building storefronts and windows.
- Does not fade in the rain or sunlight.
